Sanxing Lighting Creates Cultural Landscape Lighting for Pingdu High-Speed Railway Station
Project Overview
In late November 2020, the Weifang-Laixi High-Speed Railway officially opened to traffic, marking that Pingdu, the largest county-level city in Shandong Province, was fully integrated into China’s national high-speed rail network and entered a brand-new high-speed rail era.
The Weifang-Laixi High-Speed Railway is a key section of China’s national "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" high-speed rail network. It connects the Jinan-Qingdao High-Speed Railway in the west and links the Qingdao-Rongcheng Intercity Railway and Laixi-Rongcheng High-Speed Railway in the east. Notably, it is the first high-speed railway in Shandong that is fully invested, designed and constructed independently by local enterprises, carrying important transportation and economic development missions for the Jiaodong Peninsula region.
As a leading brand dedicated to outdoor landscape lighting for 28 years, Sanxing Lighting undertook the overall landscape lighting design and implementation of Pingdu High-Speed Railway Station. Centering on the core design concept of "Qilu Elegance & Han Dynasty Charm, Gateway to Jiaodong", our team combined Pingdu’s profound historical heritage, distinctive local customs and characteristic agricultural culture, and customized three exclusive cultural landscape lamp series for the station. The project strictly followed eight major principles: energy efficiency, high performance, environmental protection, safety, economy, harmony, unity and landscape aesthetics. We built a comfortable, safe and artistically charming night lighting environment for the station, turning the high-speed railway hub into a distinctive cultural window of Pingdu City.
Design Concept & Featured Lighting Fixtures
The lighting design of Pingdu High-Speed Railway Station takes local culture, agricultural characteristics and urban development aspirations as the core, and interprets the city’s temperament through three sets of themed landscape lamps, realizing the perfect integration of light, culture and architecture.
1. Blossom & Prosperity Lamp
Pingdu boasts fertile land and abundant agricultural products. Famous local specialties such as Dazeshan grapes, Majiagou celery, Honglan spinach, Malan peaches and Jiudian apples have become well-known regional agricultural brands, powering local rural revitalization.
The Blossom & Prosperity Lamp adopts a bionic design, vividly presenting the shapes of flowers and fruits. The elegant and harmonious outline symbolizes prosperity, abundance and happy life of Pingdu. During the daytime, it acts as an exquisite landscape decoration; after nightfall, the soft light overflows, highlighting the vigorous vitality of the city and conveying the beautiful implication of peace, harvest and perfection.
2. Classic Cube Light
Pingdu has a splendid and diverse cultural heritage. The station interior displays cultural elements represented by the Western Han Gilt Bronze Phoenix Bird Seat unearthed locally, together with murals themed on local specialties, delicate Pingdu paper-cutting, traditional straw weaving and the Qianfo Pavilion with classical architectural features, forming a unique cultural landscape.
Inspired by traditional square ancient boxes, the Classic Cube Light blends traditional aesthetics and modern design. The square shape echoes the neat and grand architectural style of the modern high-speed railway station. Through artistic light and shadow effects, it interprets the wisdom of ancient Pingdu people and the integration of diverse cultures. When lit up at night, the regular outline and soft light complement each other, showing a restrained and dignified cultural charm, like a moving scroll recording the long history and humanistic feelings of Pingdu.
3. Soaring Lamp
The opening of Weifang-Laixi High-Speed Railway has built an important transportation link connecting the Shandong Provincial Capital City Cluster and the Jiaodong Peninsula City Cluster. It plays a vital role in Shandong’s industrial transformation, rural revitalization, marine economy development and high-quality regional growth.
The Soaring Lamp is designed with a dynamic soaring shape, fully expressing Pingdu’s positive, progressive and upward urban spirit. Equipped with dot-type radial light sources and integrated with modern architectural art, the luminaire is well-coordinated with the surrounding environment. The light is soft and layered after dark. It not only meets the basic lighting needs, but also symbolizes the booming economy of Pingdu and the continuous improvement of residents’ well-being, guarding the city’s prosperity with gentle light.

Transportation & Regional Economy
The opening of the high-speed railway has realized a 2-hour living circle between Jinan and Yantai, ending Pingdu’s history without high-speed rail. It strengthens the connection between Pingdu and Qingdao, and builds a more convenient transportation channel for the provincial capital city cluster, Jiaodong Peninsula city cluster and southern Shandong city cluster, laying a solid foundation for the high-quality economic development of Shandong Province.
