Charm of Traditional Culture & Splendid Lighting | Fengting Avenue Lighting Renovation Project, Suzhou Industrial Park
Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) is a flagship cooperative project between China and Singapore, a vital window for China’s reform and opening-up, and a successful model of international collaboration. It has ranked first among national economic and technological development zones in China for consecutive years and plays a key role in the Yangtze River Delta Integration and the Belt and Road Initiative.
With the rapid urban expansion and rail transit construction, the original lighting facilities on Fengting Avenue, a major east-west arterial road in the northern part of SIP, could no longer meet the requirements of modern urban planning. To solve this problem, the local government launched a comprehensive road and lighting renovation project. Jinan Sanxing Lighting provided one-stop services including professional lighting design, customized landscape lamps and intelligent lighting solutions, delivering a benchmark urban lighting project that combines traditional Chinese culture, modern aesthetics and cutting-edge smart technology.
The core landscape lamp of this project is named "Qu Shui Liu Shang" (Wine Cups Floating on Winding Streams), inspired by a well-known traditional Chinese cultural activity. This ancient pastime for scholars became world-famous thanks to Preface to the Lanting Collection written by Wang Xizhi, representing thousands of years of Chinese garden art and humanistic spirit. The lamp fully absorbs the artistic conception of Suzhou classical gardens—winding streams and natural elegance. Adopting international minimalist art techniques, its smooth and flowing shape vividly presents the flexibility and purity of running water, perfectly integrating oriental traditional culture with the style of modern international cities.
The "Qu Shui Liu Shang" lamp creates dual scenes in day and night. In the daytime, its artistic abstract shape serves as a distinctive urban landscape. The minimalist and elegant design matches well with the modern buildings and road scenery of Suzhou Industrial Park, enriching the visual landscape of the whole avenue. After sunset, the lamp provides high-quality road lighting. Equipped with the self-developed dual-reflection distributed cross light guide system, its illuminance and brightness are increased by more than 10% compared with ordinary lamps. The light is even and soft, creating a safe and comfortable traveling environment for vehicles and pedestrians. The entire lighting system integrates road lighting, landscape decoration and leisure viewing, building a humanistic night scene and shaping a unified and distinctive urban image for SIP.
Keeping pace with the 5G smart city trend, this multi-functional smart street lamp abandons the single lighting function of traditional lamps and is equipped with modular intelligent components. Connected to Sanxing Lighting’s urban IoT management platform, the lamp supports remote centralized control. It integrates Wi-Fi coverage, video surveillance, public broadcasting, environmental monitoring, information release, one-click emergency alarm and new energy charging piles. Customized functional modules are available for different scenarios such as urban roads, bridges, parks and municipal facilities. Supported by network communication, mobile GIS and real-time monitoring technologies, the smart street lamp realizes refined and efficient urban operation and maintenance, greatly boosting the construction of smart and eco-friendly cities.
The lighting renovation project of Fengting Avenue is far more than a simple upgrade of urban lighting hardware.
