Safe & Reliable, Sanxing-Made | Snow Lotus Street Light Renovation & Upgrade in Urumqi, Xinjiang
The Snow Lotus Street Light is an iconic public infrastructure of Urumqi, Xinjiang, deployed on the city’s arterial roads and expressways. Inspired by the snow lotus, a flower unique to Xinjiang and other Central Asian regions, it has evolved into a highly regionally distinctive cultural symbol, embodying special sentiment and a sense of belonging for the people of Xinjiang.
Nestled deep in the heart of Eurasia and surrounded by mountains on three sides, Urumqi is prone to perennial strong winds that blow with high intensity and for extended durations. These climatic characteristics impose more stringent requirements on the wind resistance and overall quality of the Snow Lotus Street Light. However, the existing street lights fall short in wind resistance performance and fail to meet the expected quality standards, with problems emerging in the lamp heads, which pose potential safety hazards to pedestrians, commuters and road traffic safety.
To address the existing issues with the Snow Lotus Street Light, our company has collaborated closely with relevant stakeholders. We summarized the drawbacks of the original lamps, such as the excessively large wind-bearing surface and structural design flaws, while gaining an in-depth understanding of the cultural value embodied by the Snow Lotus Street Light. On this basis, we formulated a comprehensive and effective integrated product solution that not only resolves the quality problems of the current street lights, but also further refines the exterior design. This solution fully meets the demand for carrying forward and showcasing the cultural significance of this iconic urban symbol.
The new Snow Lotus Street Light adopts our company’s classic decorative lantern design. It extracts the modeling elements of the snow lotus and uses modern minimalist industrial design techniques and bionic design concepts to outline the overall line structure of the lantern. The lamp arms, designed to resemble snow lotus petals and stamens, look vivid and lifelike. The design textures of the snow lotus are incorporated into the details, fully demonstrating the snow lotus’ spirit of standing proudly against frost and snow, and expressing the city’s cultural connotation of perseverance and integrity.
The new Snow Lotus Street Light can withstand wind speeds of up to Level 12. Its high-stress areas adopt a steel frame structure design, while the hollowed-out and streamlined shape minimizes windward area and wind resistance to the greatest extent structurally. The center of gravity of the lamp’s petal-shaped components is positioned at the top of the pole, with a low placement that reduces the swing amplitude of the lamp under wind load. Meanwhile, die-cast reinforcing ribs are added both inside and outside the aluminum alloy lamp body to ensure wind resistance strength, meeting the design requirements for structural rigidity, stability, seismic performance and corrosion resistance.
At the lamp-pole connection joints—the most vulnerable points prone to breakage—we adopt double-layer reinforced fixing sleeves with thickened inner and outer walls. These sleeves extend to the flange for welding, and reinforced U-shaped steel structures and triangular stiffeners are welded inside to ensure the connection strength between the lamp and the pole.
Meanwhile, reinforced braces are installed inside the lamp head to enhance overall stability and structural strength, prevent falling risks, and form a triangular stress-bearing structure for stable force distribution.
At present, the renovation and upgrading project of the Snow Lotus Street Lights in Urumqi has completed the replacement of the first batch of lamps that posed the most serious safety hazards. This initiative has ensured road traffic safety and the promotion of urban culture, providing strong support for the construction and development of the city’s nighttime economy. For subsequent progress, we will release the effect display of the new Snow Lotus Street Lights at an appropriate time.
