Sanxing Lighting Project Case: Integrated Landscape Lighting Solution for Dazu Xichan Sports Park, Chongqing
Dazu Rock Carvings, located in Dazu District, Chongqing, are world-famous grotto art masterpieces representing the highest level of global grotto art from the 9th to 13th centuries. To enrich urban fitness facilities and boost civilized city construction, Dazu Urban-Rural Construction Investment Group built Xichan Sports Park, the first multi-functional open sports park in Dazu integrating professional sports events, national fitness, cultural entertainment and ecological leisure.
Covering about 100 mu, the park adopts a dynamic-static zoning layout. The north and east zones are dynamic sports areas equipped with basketball courts, tennis courts, badminton courts, 5-a-side football pitches, gateball courts, table tennis courts and fitness plazas. The southern static zone consists of fitness trails and leisure landscape nodes, supported by municipal facilities and commercial premises. The park required a complete outdoor lighting system balancing functionality, regional culture and landscape aesthetics.
Sanxing Lighting undertook the full landscape lighting project. Combining Dazu Rock Carving culture, local urban symbols and sports themes, we customized 4 exclusive landscape garden lights and provided a one-stop integrated outdoor lighting solution to create a layered light environment with alternating light and shadow for dynamic and static zones.
Highlights of 4 Custom Landscape Garden Lights
Four exclusive garden lights named Zhuanzhu, Fengzu, Zhanfang and Yushulinfeng were tailor-made for the park, integrating Dazu regional culture, sports spirit and local ecological characteristics:
Zhuanzhu (Focus) – Sports-themed Landscape Light
Inspired by gateball sticks, the light pole adopts mesh hollow design to highlight the park’s sports identity. The light head is transparent and lightweight, balancing basic road lighting and sports atmosphere, ideal for sports courts and fitness plazas.
Fengzu (Abundance) – Regional Cultural Light of Dazu
Derived from the Chinese character "Zu" (foot), the square minimalist shape conveys the spirit of pragmatism and forging ahead. With strong visual impact, it fully reflects local urban culture and is installed at main entrances and walkways.
Zhanfang (Blooming) – Dazu Rock Carving Cultural Light
Designed based on Dazu Rock Carving essence, the pole is carved with glowing sports silhouettes at night. Its six-sided structure draws inspiration from the Six Realms of rock carving culture, and the hollow branch-shaped light head resembles blooming flowers, symbolizing urban prosperity. It is arranged along cultural landscape nodes.
Yushulinfeng (Elegant Poplar) – Ecological Light Inspired by Chongqing’s City Tree
Taking Ficus altissima (Chongqing city tree) as the prototype, natural tree lines are reconstructed with modern minimalist techniques and tech decorative lines. It matches the park’s eco-friendly and tranquil positioning and is laid out along leisure trails in the southern static zone.
Lighting Operation Effect
Alternating bright and soft lighting matches the dynamic-static layout of the whole park. High-luminance lighting in sports areas ensures safe night sports, while gentle warm light on leisure trails creates a quiet relaxing atmosphere. Custom garden lights scatter across the park after dark, decorating the night sky like blooming flowers.
The complete lighting system optimizes the park’s night operation experience, improves residents’ happiness of night fitness and leisure, and strengthens the city’s cultural heritage via light carriers integrating Dazu rock carving, urban, sports and ecological elements. The project greatly supports Dazu’s civilized city construction and urban ecological civilization upgrading.
